Short interest vs float

Short interest is the number of shares sold short and not yet covered - FINRA publishes it twice a month with roughly two weeks of delay. Short % of float compares it to the freely tradable shares: the higher it is, the more crowded the short side, and the more fuel for a squeeze.

That is flow, not positioning, and FINRA itself warns against reading it as short interest. Shown for the last available trading day; a jump against the 20-day average still flags unusually heavy short-marked flow.
